Sweat Gland Liposuction in Berlin

Permanent reduction of excessive sweating

Permanent reduction of excessive sweating

Sweat gland liposuction can be a long-term alternative to recurring botulinum toxin treatments for severe hyperhidrosis of the armpits.

What is sweat gland liposuction?

What is sweat gland liposuction?

Excessive sweating in the armpit area (axillary hyperhidrosis) can be a significant burden for those affected in their daily lives. Although sweat production is an important natural body function, some people produce significantly more sweat than necessary, regardless of temperature, physical activity, or stress.

Sweat gland liposuction is a surgical procedure for the permanent reduction of sweat production in the armpit region. The sweat-producing glands are specifically detached and suctioned out through small skin incisions.

Unlike botulinum toxin treatments, which need to be repeated regularly, sweat gland liposuction aims for a long-term reduction in sweat production – making it a suitable option when conservative treatments are insufficient or a more permanent solution is desired.

The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis and leaves only small, inconspicuous scars. For many patients, the result means a noticeable improvement in their quality of life in daily activities.

How does sweat gland liposuction work?

Sweat gland liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure for the permanent reduction of excessive sweating in the armpit area. The goal of the treatment is to permanently reduce the number of sweat-producing glands, thereby significantly decreasing sweat production.

01

Anesthesia and Preparation

Sweat gland liposuction is typically performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. If desired, the treatment can also be done under sedation (“twilight sleep”), making the procedure particularly comfortable for most patients. A special solution is then injected into the tissue to prepare for the treatment and gently detach the sweat glands from the surrounding tissue.
02

Detachment of the Sweat Glands

Through small skin incisions of a few millimeters, the sweat glands in the armpit area are carefully and precisely detached from their surroundings using specialized curettes, minimizing the impact on the surrounding tissue.
03

Suction of the Sweat Glands

The detached glands are then removed using fine specialized cannulas. Depending on the initial situation, the combination of detachment and suction can significantly and permanently reduce sweat production in the treated area.
04

Healing Phase

After the procedure, the small skin incisions are treated. In the first few days, mild swelling, bruising, or a feeling of tension may occur – these usually subside quickly. Most patients leave the clinic on the same day and can resume their daily activities shortly thereafter.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sweat Gland Curettage

Sweat gland curettage is a surgical procedure for treating severe hyperhidrosis. Through small skin incisions, the sweat glands in the underarm area are permanently reduced via curettage and suction.
The procedure is particularly suitable for patients with significant underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis) when conservative measures such as antiperspirants or botulinum toxin do not achieve sufficient or lasting results.
Since a large portion of the sweat glands is permanently removed, sweat production in the treated areas is significantly reduced in the long term. However, complete freedom from sweating cannot be guaranteed.
Botulinum toxin temporarily inhibits sweat production and needs to be repeated regularly. In contrast, sweat gland curettage aims for a long-term reduction of sweat glands through a surgical procedure.
Mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness are normal in the first few days. Depending on the healing process, most patients are able to return to work within a few days, while sports and intense physical activities should be avoided for about two to four weeks.
Light daily activities are usually possible after a few days. Intensive physical exertion should generally be avoided for about two to four weeks.
