Skin Rejuvenation with Fractional CO2 Laser

Radiant skin through modern laser technology for your face

Tired-looking skin, pigmentation spots, or fine lines – many of these signs of aging can now be targeted and sustainably treated. At SA Aesthetics in Berlin, we rely on modern fractional CO2 laser technology – an innovative procedure that significantly differs from traditional laser treatments.

What is the CO2 Laser?

CO2 Laser

A CO2 laser is a medical laser that emits concentrated light at a wavelength of 10,600 nm. This wavelength is ideal for targeted tissue ablation, where the top layers of skin are gently removed to stimulate collagen regeneration and skin renewal. Carbon dioxide is used as the laser medium inside the device, hence the term "CO2."

What is the difference between fractional and traditional CO2 lasers?

While traditional CO2 lasers treat the entire surface of the skin and remove large areas, the fractional CO2 laser works with tiny, targeted micro-injuries. This leaves some skin between the treated areas intact, which significantly speeds up healing and reduces risks. The result: effective skin renewal with shorter downtime and long-term collagen regeneration.

How does the fractional CO2 laser affect the skin?

The fractional CO2 laser creates tiny micro-columns in the skin, known as micro-ablation zones. These stimulate natural wound healing and especially the production of new collagen – a key substance for smooth, firm, and youthful-looking skin. Surrounded by untreated tissue, the treated skin areas heal particularly quickly.

Difference from non-ablative procedures

Non-ablative lasers only stimulate the skin to regenerate without removing the top layer. They are gentler but often less effective. Ablative procedures like the fractional CO2 laser specifically remove aged tissue, achieving significantly more visible results.

When is a CO₂ laser treatment advisable?

The fractional CO₂ laser is suitable for a variety of aesthetic skin concerns – especially when conventional creams, peels, or microneedling do not show sufficient results:

Which body areas are suitable for treatment?

The CO2 laser treatment is most commonly performed on the face – here, fine lines around the eyes and mouth, forehead wrinkles, or uneven skin textures can be particularly well improved. The skin in the areas of the cheeks and jawline also visibly benefits from the smoothing and tightening due to stimulated collagen regeneration.

The neck and décolleté are also among the particularly sensitive but heavily used skin zones. Here, the CO2 laser acts as a gentle method for skin rejuvenation without the need for surgical interventions.

The fractional CO2 laser can be used for scar treatment on the entire body. Stretch marks (striae) can also be visibly improved in certain cases.

CO2 Laser Full Face – Skin Renewal & Skin Resurfacing

Healthy, radiant skin comes from within – and this is where the CO2 laser works. It is one of the most effective technologies for targeted skin renewal and supports the skin's natural regeneration processes without artificially altering its appearance.

By precisely targeted laser pulses, superficial and deeper skin layers are specifically addressed. Fine lines, sun-induced skin aging, uneven texture, or certain skin changes can be visibly improved – while simultaneously stimulating collagen production and supporting natural skin renewal.

In our practice clinic in Berlin, we rely on modern fractional CO2 technology – including the eCO2 laser – and plan each treatment individually. Depending on your skin type and your wishes, we tailor the intensity: from gentle, regenerative concepts to more intensive skin resurfacing treatments with a stronger focus on skin renewal and collagen stimulation.

Our goal is not to change facial features – but to show your skin in its best version. Naturally, individually, and at the highest level.

Who is a CO2 laser treatment suitable for – and who is it not?

Procedure of CO2 laser treatment

01

Personal consultation

In the initial consultation, we analyze your skin, discuss your wishes, and jointly determine the appropriate treatment depth and intensity.
02

Preparation

Before the treatment, intense sun exposure should be avoided for at least 2 to 4 weeks to minimize the risk of pigment shifts. Depending on skin type and treatment goals, targeted preparation with mild fruit acid products, antioxidant serums (e.g., with Vitamin C), or brightening agents like niacinamide may be beneficial to stabilize the skin and prepare it for laser therapy. In cases of hyperpigmentation, medically supervised depigmenting care may also be used. Irritating products like retinol peels should be avoided for 2-4 weeks, and alcohol-containing cosmetics should be discontinued a few days before the appointment.
03

The laser treatment

The treatment itself usually lasts 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size and condition of the treated area. Before starting, a local anesthetic cream is applied to make the procedure as comfortable as possible; if necessary, additional cooling measures are used. If desired, we can also perform the treatment in our practice in Berlin under twilight sedation. The laser is always precisely and individually adjusted to achieve an optimal balance between effectiveness and skin preservation.
